Taurus 689 is a robust all-steel medium-frame revolver chambered in .357 Magnum, combining a classic construction with a distinctive sporting appearance. The 6-round cylinder and durable steel frame are paired with a 4" (102 mm) barrel, providing a well-balanced combination of accuracy, handling, and compact dimensions.
The revolver operates in DA/SA mode, allowing both double-action and single-action firing. The external hammer with spur also allows single-action operation with the hammer manually cocked. The cylinder holds 6 rounds, and the design also allows the use of .38 Special / .38 Special +P ammunition.
One of the defining features of the Taurus 689 is the vented rib running along the top of the barrel, giving the revolver its distinctive sporting appearance. A full underlug extends beneath the barrel and encloses the ejector rod while adding weight to the front of the revolver. This helps reduce muzzle rise and contributes to stable handling during firing.
The frame is made from carbon steel and features a matte black finish that helps reduce unwanted reflections. Black, ergonomically shaped rubber grips provide a secure hold and contribute to shooting comfort.
