The Smith & Wesson M&P10 Sport Optics Ready is a modern semi-automatic rifle based on the AR platform and chambered in .308 Winchester, combining substantial performance, a durable construction, and versatile configuration for recreational, sport shooting, and professional applications. The rifle features a 16-inch barrel made from 4140 chromoly steel with an Armornite® finish applied to both the interior and exterior surfaces. The barrel utilizes a 1:10" twist rate with 5R rifling, contributing to accuracy and long service life. Armornite® is a hardened nitride finish that provides enhanced corrosion and wear resistance while reducing surface roughness and light reflection and increasing surface lubricity. The threaded barrel is fitted with an A2-style muzzle device.
The rifle uses a mid-length gas system and features a gas block with an integrated Picatinny-style rail. The mid-length handguard provides a practical and compact configuration, while a sling swivel allows convenient attachment of a sling. The Optics Ready configuration is prepared for mounting a suitable optic, with no iron sights included. Reliable operation is further supported by a chromed firing pin.
The upper and lower receivers are constructed from aluminum, complemented by a polymer pistol grip and an adjustable stock. The rifle features ambidextrous controls, including an ambidextrous safety selector, magazine release, and bolt release, making operation convenient for both right- and left-handed shooters. The magazine has a 20-round capacity. Overall length is approximately 34 inches (86.4 cm), width 2.88 inches (7.3 cm), height 8 inches (20.3 cm), and weight 128.5 oz (3.64 kg). The rifle is supplied with one magazine.
