Taurus 689 in this configuration represents the largest and most luxurious-looking variant of the series. It is a sport-oriented revolver chambered for .357 Magnum, featuring a 6" (152 mm) barrel, all-steel construction, and a silver stainless finish.
The revolver operates in DA/SA mode, allowing both double-action and single-action firing. The external hammer with spur allows single-action operation with the hammer manually cocked. The 6-round cylinder accepts .357 Magnum as well as .38 Special ammunition.
The long 6" (152 mm) barrel features a distinctive vented rib with openings along the top, giving the revolver a pronounced sporting appearance. A full underlug runs beneath the barrel, enclosing the ejector rod while adding weight to the front of the revolver. This contributes to stable handling and helps reduce muzzle rise when firing powerful .357 Magnum loads.
The frame is made from high-carbon steel and features a deep high-gloss stainless finish, creating a distinctive mirror-like appearance. Black, ergonomically shaped rubber grips provide a secure hold and comfortable handling during extended shooting sessions.
